International Women’s Day Part 2 of 4

International Women’s Day!

At Lauri’s Lemonade Stand we Celebrate Women Every Day!

As I mentioned last week, I wanted to share with you the brave women who were guests this past year on my podcast.  Last week, we celebrated the first ten and this week we celebrate episodes 11-20!  There is a little blurb about each one below and the link to their individual podcast should you want to learn more.  Have fun as I did learning from these amazing, incredible women and then tune in next week for episodes 21-30.  Thank you for being a part of this movement to support and uplift other women!

Ed Mackey – Ok, so I said women and then episode #011 is actually a man!  My husband in fact.  If you go to my website and sign up for my email list you get what I have lovingly dubbed “Eddy’s 60 Days of Sunshine”  which is a download for you to use as a tool to help someone you know who is going through a hard time, mild depression, or general sadness.  It is a way to use a network of family and friends and peers to support someone in their time of need.  Listen to this episode to learn the why and how I came up with this idea in supporting my husband when I didn’t know what else to do.

Irene Thomas – This is just a fun and uplifting episode #012 that teaches us how to Geocache!  Have you tried geocaching yet?  It is something you can do by yourself or with friends…on a trip across the world or the country or even in your own backyard.  Try it, you’ll like it!

Lauri Mackey – This is your 3-Step Guide to accomplishing your next goal with incredible passion!  I share with you my journey to finishing high school after age 40 and the power that ignited in myself to do and be more…I felt like Wonder Woman and that I could do anything!  It is part of the reason I started this podcast to help women over 40 in accomplishing whatever their little hearts desire.  Listen, then use the tools to accomplish your next goal!

Rhonda Waidmann – The respect you’ll find for Rhonda Waidmann lies at the other end of this podcast interview.  Sometimes you think you know someone from the outside looking in, but then you delve deeper and find a hero.  Heroes are found in everyday life and in everyday circumstances.  Rhonda has endured much, but has also fought for much and is still fighting to help others to this day.  Enjoy this down to earth interview and get inspired to create positive change with a smile in your neck of the woods!

Rachel Call – Rachel Call cannot be shocked by anything she hears which means she is the least judgmental person I know.  She would never admit it, but she is truly a gift to the hearts and spirits of those she touches in their lives.  Embrace this powerful, passionate podcast and reach out to her if you would like to have her touch your life as she as touched mine.  Don’t forget to check out the two books she recommends in Fearless Living by Rhonda Britten and Happiness is a Choice by Barry Neil Kaufman.

Linda Middlesworth – is a force to be reckoned with.  She will convince you to try a vegan diet with the utmost compassion and concern not only for the animals, but truly for you.  She has seen the worst of what the Standard American Diet (SAD) can do to you having personally experienced it.  She is 72 years old, voted Sexiest Vegan in the World by PETA in 2015, created V-Dog with her late husband, and teaches numerous fitness classes daily along with being a Food for Life Instructor through the PCRM.  Remember I told you she was a force to be reckoned with?  Check out this podcast and see what you can do to find your voice with purpose and passion!

Stephanie MacKenzie – Female Entrepreneurs!  You need to hear this interview!  Stephanie MacKenzie’s interview was done while I was vacationing in Oregon!  Love that I can take this business anywhere!  While there is definitely a few glitches, you do not want to miss this incredible interview about taking your ideas and passions and turning them into income for you and your family.  Stephanie is living proof that it can be done!  Take the leap and join the movement!

Brenda Davis, RD – went vegan when vegan wasn’t popular in society or in her field of practice.  There was fear involved in remaining a registered dietitian, but because she overcame her fear she is now looked up to in her field winning awards, speaking, publishing books and creating change in the Marshall Islands, you can’t help but be caught up to action in your part of the world.  Become part of the grass roots efforts to be kind to yourself, others, and animals in this inspiring episode!

Jane Birch – Her book Discovering The Word of Wisdom has been an inspiration for my Facebook page called VeganMormon.  More than that, and before that, she was simply an inspiration for me in following my journey of a Whole Food, Plant-Based nutrition lifestyle.  in this episode we get down and dirty about our food practice, religious practice and our belief in God.  Hold on tight as we, as two women, connect, consult, and embrace this way of life.  Jane’s journey is amazing and brave, enjoy this amazing episode!

Susan Pierce Thompson, PhD – Susan is a Warrior fighting for nothing short of world domination.  Following her tribe in the Bright Line Eating community promises you three things:  Happiness, Thinness, and Freedom.  You are going to LOVE what she has to offer by way of being Happy, Thin, and Free, but you’re also going to just LOVE Susan.  Nothing short of a miracle in surviving her own journey, she has lost 60 pounds (and kept it off for over 13 years!) and conquered drug addiction, and has a plan to share how she did it with the world.  Join this journey!

See you next week for episodes 21-30!  Don’t forget to comment below and let me know your thoughts on the blog and who you would like to see on future podcast episodes!

Episode 000-The Podcast

Lauri’s Lemonade Stand
A Positivity Podcast for Women

Hello, Lemonaders!  My name is Lauri Mackey and I created Lauri’s Lemonade Stand to help women over 40 either enhance who we already are or if needed, to start from scratch to re-create ourselves and figure out who we want to be when we grow up.  To do this, we need inspiration from others who have gone before us or who are living that reality right now.  Most of the positivity podcast is interview-based so that we can hear others stories of hope and empowerment.  To hear from others who have hit rock bottom and found the only way to go was or is up.  As Stephanie McKenzie stated in her podcast episode 017, we are here to help those who haven’t reached where we are yet and also look forward to those who have already been where we are now.  Here is a good example of what I’m talking about:
During my very first interview, 001 Rebecca Rusch, who is a multi-world champion mountain biker, author, speaker and all around bad-ass that I admire discussed how more women were getting into mountain-biking, but that the the sport is mostly male-dominated.  Basically, we ride with guys more than we do gals.  We talked about how we can watch a guy take some technical section, make it look easy, but that we still may be reluctant or hesitant to try it ourselves.  Then we get our gal friend, like Lindsey Voreis on episode 003 who is also an awesome mountain biker and teaches other women confidence throught this amazing sport take the same technical section and it gives us the courage and strength to try it ourselves.  In other words, as women, we need each other!
We need each other to create courage, give each other strength, build each other up and create contagious energy to do and be better.  To take our “sucking lemons” moments and turn them into sweet lemonade.
Some of the other podcasts, while still interview-based are just fun, like episode 012 where Irene Thomas teaches us how to Geocache or Jo Ellen Soesbee who is the Tool Box Tom Girl in episode 004 who will inspire you to pick up those tools and do it yourself before ever making a phone call to the handyman.
Another fun part of every episode are the Lemonade Moments I ask at the end of every interview to my guests.  Because I am constantly putting them on the hot seat, I thought I should also have to answer these questions myself so here goes:
Question #1 – Name one activity you do every day without fail?  Well, the obvious answer was brush and floss my teeth, but my official answer is reading my scriptures, writing in my journal and saying a prayer to do good that day.  Question #2 – Favorite Guilty Pleasure Food?  French Fries from Veggie Grill!!  Not the kind you get at fast food joints, the thick, covered in fun seasoning kind of fries.  I would say the runner up to that would be the banana chocolate peanut butter vegan soft-serve my dear hubby makes for me when I have a sweet tooth.  Did I mention I was vegan?  Question #3 – Biggest Pet Peeve?  The buttons at crosswalks!!  Seriously, do you ever see those people standing there hitting that button a thousand times until they get the light?  It doesn’t matter if you push it once or a hundred times…the light is going to change at the same time.  Somewhere along the line someone told someone else that the more times you push it the more people it thinks is standing there so it will change faster.  Big lie!  It doesn’t think at all, hello!  It will change just as fast for the one as for the dozen.  Yep…feel a little passionate about that one!  Haha!  Question #4 – Favorite Quote I’m loving right now.  Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly until you learn to do it well by Zig Ziglar.  Hence this podcast!  Or writing a blog, or learning a new skill on a bike.  You have to start somewhere…the most important thing to do is to start!
Question #5 and the last one – What’s the biggest thing I’ve accomplished since turning 40.  Graduating high school for sure!  It was seriously one of the hardest things I did as an adult!  You can check out episode 013 to get the full scoop but let me just say that it’s way harder as an adult to graduate than as a teenager.  Tell your teenagers to stay in school!!
What are some of the other things I’ve accomplished since turning 40?  After graduating high school, becoming a certified Starchivore, earning a certificate in plant-based nutrition through eCornell University, becoming a Certified health coach through The Institute of Integrative Nutrition, establishing Lauri’s Lemonade Stand Blog/Podcast/Website/Facebook page, becoming an Inspirational Speaker with training from YSU and Lisa Nichols Motivating the Masses, earning my Young Women’s medallion through the Personal Progress program, racing mountain bikes and becoming a mountain bike coach to our local high school team. Seriously, ladies…if I can do it…anyone can!
What are my next goals?  To write a book!  I have been taking all sorts of courses and researching what it takes to write a book.  How to publish traditionally or self-publish, what to write about that will make the most difference in helping other women accomplish their goals.  Just to hold myself accountable, I’m setting a date to release a book by Christmas 2017.  That gives me just over a year to get it written and sorted out.  A noble goal and I can’t wait to share it with all of you!
Ladies, this positivity podcast for women was created out of love to offer support in your journey.  Wherever you are, you are right where you are supposed to be.  I’m betting that if you have 45 minutes per week to listen while you’re driving, working out, or just hanging at home you will feel the love and inspiration of these wonderful women.  That you won’t feel so alone in your journey.  That you will feel empowered to do and be whatever your little heart desires.
