Coaching is more than just a business to Kate Arms.

It is the primary vehicle for her life’s work: helping people thrive as the fullest version of themselves and creating systems that support the people working within them.

15 years ago, Kate walked away from a prestigious and lucrative legal career because it was sucking the life out of her. She had once before climbed out of the black hole of depression despite the medical profession dragging her down and she didn’t want to have to do it again. So she began a journey to discover how to support herself financially in ways that allowed her to thrive.

Kate studied at a Unitarian Universalist school for ministers, continuing her life-long work in theatres as an actor and director, and trained as an InterPlay leader. She started teaching body-mind-spirit integration through play and the performing arts, and taught others how to score highly on the LSAT (Law School Admission Test) and the California Bar Exam.

Eventually, however, parenting led her to her true vocation. The universe threw a curve ball at her when it came to her kids. The two planned children turned into four when she conceived triplets. But, the challenge of raising triplets plus one and dealing with autism and other special needs transformed her into the person she had always wanted to be. In helping her children become the very best manifestations of exactly who they are, she had to become a better version of herself. And now she helps clients become the best possible versions of themselves.

When people come to work with Kate, they are struggling: they are overwhelmed, stagnating, or burning out at work; or feeling lost, or frustrated by the important relationships in their life. They want more: more fun, more fire, more challenge, more intimacy, and more aliveness.  Working with Kate, they learn how to live fully. They feel vibrantly alive as they take action towards their most meaningful goals. They create the business opportunities they dream of and the intimate relationships they crave.

Her approach to coaching integrates traditional coaching tools, such as self-reflection, discernment, goal setting, and accountability, with physical movement to help people tap into their own body-knowledge as a source of guidance and creative inspiration. The ethic of play, strengths-based growth models, mind-body integration, and respect for the wisdom each of her clients hold about their own lives and practices are the foundations of Kate’s coaching practice.

She helped clients with entrepreneurial development, motivation, time management, increased creativity, stress management, personal growth, business and personal relationships, family and parenting, and self-care.

Many of her clients run passion-based businesses or are artists. Many have fears around speaking publicly about their work, especially in fast-paced, networking situations. Kate offers improv and theatre-based training in public speaking especially for clients who need more confidence in that arena.

Kate has developed the Side By Side Living technique and you can gain more insight in her latest book, Unblock: Writing Prompts for Works in Progress is available from Signal Fire Press.

Kate Arms has been coaching people in one form or another for over three decades. She is a graduate of The Coaches Training Institute and the Creativity Coaching Association, and is a certified InterPlay Leader.

When not working, she is usually hanging out with her 4 children, her pets, acting or directing with local community theaters, or at the ice rink playing Ringette or managing a team.
